The Shakori Trail must be accessed from either the Ridge Trail or Knight’s Trail. It is often done in conjunction with the Buckquarter Trail and Ridge Trail as one loop from the end of Cole Mill Road at the mid-parking area between the Ranger Station and loop parking area. See the Buckquarter Trail description to get details on accessing this trail.
Shakori, named after the Shacco-ree Indians who resided in the vicinity many years ago, splits off the Ridge Trail upcreek on Buckquarter Creek and goes north and eventually west to a point where it meets the Ridge Trail. It involves a relentless uphill climb deep in the woods with occasional glimpses of the subdivision residences to the north. All-in-all it is not a strenuous hike as some guides depict, but will break a sweat.
