Pea Creek Trail, blazed with blue blaze circles usually is accessed from the end of Old Cole Mill Rd, found at the intersection of Umstead and Cole Mill Rd. This access does lock with varying seasonal hours – check with the Eno River State Park for times. As you face the river, the Pea Creek Trailhead is at the far left corner on a bluff following downriver, headed toward Cole Mill Rd. The trail angles down to the river, crosses under the bridge and follows a short loop trail. Alternatively, you can park on Cole Mill at the bridge, and walk down a set of wooden steps on the south side. This is generally only used if you need to hit the trail before they open, or plan to stay late, otherwise you will be locked in.

There are a few ups and downs but nothing serious. At 1.3 miles total, the return upper loop is in deeper forest. Most people add the Dunnagan Trail to this one for a longer loop. Which is found crossing the wooden bridge at the northern end of the loop. There is easy access to the other side of the river, most of the river on this trail is slow and deep. Anything can be swum, of course, but further downriver are better ways to ford.
